Steel Design - Paton House, Carlisle

Project Name: Paton House, Carlisle
Client: Carlisle City Council
Scope: Demolition plan, temporary works support and submission of AIP

Onyx Structural were initially appointed by the client to provide support in developing a suitable demolition sequence for an existing 4 storey structure which also formed a bridge over a public highway.

The existing structure was a steel framed building with internal ramps. The uppermost floor of the building formed a bridge from the superstructure over Bush Brow onto a Grade 1 listed viaduct within the centre of Carlisle.

Onyx Structural undertook various site inspections and surveys to determine an appropriate temporary propping sequence to be undertaken during demolition.

Upon the completion of the demolition, Onyx Structural were instructed to carry out temporary works design associated with the support of a large retaining structure (previously forming part of the basement) located directly adjacent to a public highway.

Onyx structural were responsible for the design of structural steel frames that were erected on site following the demolition of the previous superstructure. Onyx were also responsible for the compilation and submission of a suitable AIP document that was submitted for local authority approval.
